Pastor’s Message –

John 16: 12-15

I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you all in truth.  He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.  He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.  All that belongs to the Father is mine.  That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.  In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.

Jesus in this reading is talking to his disciples about hearing the truth.  The only problem is that he will not be the one speaking to he disciples.  He makes it clear that someone else will be telling them all they need to hear.  The Holy Spirit will be the one to bring the message.  The message will be from Jesus but Jesus will not be there to deliver it.  A being that will replace Jesus on earth will be the deliverer.  This may seem to be a little confusing but if you believe in the Trinity then you know what Jesus is talking about.  You see there are three entities in our one God – The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. Whatever belongs to the Father also belongs to the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit.  So if you believe in Christ then you believe in God the Father and the Holy Spirit.  If your belief is strong then whatever any of the three tell you is the truth.  In order for us to believe in the Trinity we must have faith.  After all we are to believe in the resurrection, the defeat of death, and an everlasting kingdom we have never seen.  So let’s this week take a few moments and think about what we believe in and WHO we believe in and pray that we all believe the three in one; and the one in three.

God Bless

Memorial Day/ Pentecost/ The Church’s Birthday.   This past Sunday our churches celebrated Memorial Day, Pentecost, and the Birthday of the Church.  During services both congregations honored our veterans by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and joined together in a prayer for those who have given the fullest for their country.  As we celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit we also celebrated the Church’s Birthday.  The participants during Children’s Time were given birthday cake to celebrate the Church’s birth. As soon as they received their cake they were asked to deliver a piece of birthday cake to all who were in attendance.  It was a great celebration!!

Sunday School is available each Sunday morning.  The importance of Sunday School is that though you may think hearing the word will suffice for you, you really need to be in attendance at Sunday School to gather all the information that you can in an open discussion classroom.  Jesus’ word cannot be totally understood just by listening to a sermon.  You have to interact with it and with other Christians to learn what He was saying to us.  This is a life long study and you should take part.  There is a class for every age so please plan on joining us to learn more about our Lord, Jesus Christ.   Sunday School at Williams begins at 10:45 AM and at Antioch at 10:00 AM.

Bible Study. There has been a request that we try to find out if there is any interest in a week night weekly Bible study.   If you would like to take part in such a venture, please sign up on the sheet that will be passed around during services or send me an e-mail message.  The sheet will also be available during Sunday School.

Mission Trip.  Just in case you haven’t heard, Brenda Barnes has again been wandering in the Gulf States with hammer in hand.  Seriously, Brenda has recently returned from another mission trip to Mississippi where she was working to help restore homes for victims of Katrina.  If you have the opportunity, please thank Brenda for her efforts and ask about her trip.

The Methodist Way

From the time of John and Charles Wesley, Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren hymnals have constituted the “worship book” of our corporate and private piety and praise.  Hymn singing has been a vital and distinctive component of our worship of God.  From our beginning we have been “a singing people.”  This Hymnal provides what the congregation needs for Sunday and other times of worship (including the sacraments): the rites of marriage and burial, and morning and evening prayer and praise. Additional worship materials are placed among the hymns.

Prodigal, The  Author: Beverly Lewis

An alarming secret is brought to light in ABRAM'S DAUGHTERS, Book Four. Truth can be thorny, even heartbreaking, yet Leah is required to make another difficult choice. Will this secret of secrets bring further sorrow for Leah, Sadie and the Ebersol family? At its heart, The Prodigal, is a multi-layered mystery and a saga of love, a story of deceit and untangled webs, of disgrace and redemption, encompassed by the merciful threads that knit families together. Never would this family, especially Leah, have expected the return of one more prodigal….
