Pastor’s Message –

1 Corinthians 15: 50-54

I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we all will be changed---in a flash, in a twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable have been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

As we progress with our journey toward the kingdom of God we will be changed. In this reading we see that the “perishable” will be changed to the “imperishable”, the mortal will be changed with immortality.” When this change has been completed death shall no longer have a hold on us. For us to achieve the kingdom of God we are going to have to change. We are going to have to learn that death does not need to be feared because with our faith in Jesus Christ we know we can overcome and defeat death. We have to change because if we don’t we are saying that what Jesus did on Calvary was for nothing!  So living a life without change is like living the life described in our reading as being perishable or mortal. Let’s all look to change as a new beginning, a chance to grow closer to God, a chance to know him better.

God Bless

Methodists understand that God is at work in every human being.  We call it Prevenient Grace.  It means the grace that came before us.  Before we know it, before we claim it, before we can name it, that grace is at work in our lives.

In the Library:

Oliver Boyce Greene, 1915-1976, Baptist Evangelist

Oliver Boyce Greene accepted Christ as his Saviour when he was 20 years old.  For 35 years, he conducted revivals all across America in churches and in his own tent, until failing health forced him to stop.  Also, he preached a daily radio broadcast over a network which grew from one station in 1939 to 180 stations at his death.  The Gospel Hour is still heard coast to coast by his taped messages.  Dr. Greene was a prolific author, writing and publishing many verse-by-verse commentaries on the Bible in addition to numerous sermon books and soul-winning booklets.  Dr. Greene’s influence will continue to be felt for years to come through his radio ministry, through but, most important, through the tens of thousands of people he led to the Lord through his efforts.

Books by Oliver Greene in our library include:

Acts of Apostle Volumes I-IV

Gospel of Matthew Volumes I-VI

Gospel According to John Volumes I-III

On the lighter side….

Some minds are like concrete thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.

Just a Thought…..

It is a commonplace how easily a child of 3 or 4 picks up a foreign language if exposed to it without any formal teaching. Yet we are unwilling to admit that a child of the same age picks up our unconscious attitudes and prejudices without being taught—and often retains these longer than any of his formal education.
