Pastor’s Message – Holy Week Think about it!

As we begin this week let us remember what is going to happen. Jesus makes his triumphal entry in to Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. The people are joyously waving and laying palms as he goes through the gate. There are hundreds of thousand of people in the city for it is the time of the Passover, one of the holiest holidays in the Jewish religion. Jesus is here to celebrate the holiday.

Seeing the crush of people the leaders of the temple decide to plot against Jesus because he is a threat to their way of life. They were going to have him arrested and killed. They needed an inside man to work with them to make this happen and they found it in Judas, a man who wanted a military victory over the Romans so the Jews could be free.  And he did it for 20 pieces of silver!

As the Passover was being celebrated Jesus did something unusual. He took bread blessed it and broke it and told his disciples to eat and remember that this was his body broken for them and all for the forgiveness of sins. Then he took wine, blessed it and gave to his disciple saying “Drink, from it all of you. This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for the many for the forgiveness of sins.”  Once the meal was over they went to the Mount of Olives were Jesus was betrayed and arrested.

They tried him in front of the Jewish leaders and in front of the Roman leaders. They brutally tortured him and then they hung him on a cross until he was dead. On the third day he arose from the dead. The main basis of our religion and faith was this act. Could we ask for more?

As we go about his week think of the joy of his entry in to Jerusalem. How he brought us the act of Communion. How he was betrayed and crucified. Last but not least, how he rose from the dead. But the most important thing to remember and think about is that he did all of this for you and you and you. He did it for everybody.  Think about that this week.

Report from the Mission Committee.

The Antioch Mission Committee started a program called “Two Cents per Meal”. This program will help the Lunenburg Ministries resolve a short fall in their ability to distribute food to the needy in our community. It involves a family taking a small container that the committee will provide and at each meal put a set amount (2 cents to whatever you chose) for each person eating a meal in the container. The containers were handed out and should be returned on Palm Sunday.  We will gather all the containers and deliver them to the Community Palm Sunday Service in Kenbridge. At that time the monies will be given to the Ministries to replenish the food bank.

Williams Ladies Tea

Everyone is invited to Ladies Tea on Saturday March 15 at 3:00PM at Williams.  Join the woman in fellowship and hearing a message as well as good food and tea.

Sunday School is available each Sunday morning.  The importance of Sunday School is that, though you may think hearing the word will suffice for you, you really need to be in attendance at Sunday School to gather all the information that you can in an open discussion classroom.  Jesus’ word cannot be totally understood just by listening to a sermon.  You have to interact with it and with other Christians to learn what He was saying to us.  This is a life long study and you should take part.  There is a class for every age so please plan on joining us to learn more about our Lord, Jesus Christ.   Sunday School at Williams begins at 10:45 AM and at Antioch at 10:00 AM.

Evening Bible Study. Evening Bible study will continue on March 17 at 7:00PM at the Parsonage. We will view the movie “The Passion of Christ”. We will discuss the events depicted in the movie. If you are looking for a study of God’s word join us not only for the study, but good fellowship.

Morning Bible Study. Morning Bible study will meet this week. Morning Bible study will continue on March 18 at 10:00AM at the Parsonage. We will view the movie “The Passion of Christ”. We will discuss the events depicted in the movie. If you are looking for a study of God’s word join us not only for the study, but good fellowship.

If you cannot reach Rev. Ed at the parsonage, you may call him on his cell phone:  252-532-0952.  He can also be reached via e-mail at revedumc@yahoo.com .   If you would like to receive e-mail messages from the pastor send an e-mail to him at revedumc@yahoo.com and we will add you to our list.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Shirley Hite asked me to let everyone know about this program and the plight it is in. If you get a chance help a person who can’t afford to get this procedure.

A favor to ask, it only takes a minute....Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman.  It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window in the middle). This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.
