On our walk. . . . . . . . . . . March 4, 2007

Pastor’s Message –

Acts 18: 9-11 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city." So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.

Paul, under the threat of citizen’s of Corinth, was looking for a sign from God to continue his ministry. The sign came to him in a vision and Paul was told to keep on preaching and ministering to this city. As it is with Paul, it is also our responsibility to reach out to our community and make disciples of those who are in need of Jesus Christ. Let us all go about our daily routine, but keep in mind that we are to make disciples, to bring people closer to Christ and to be Christ to others.

150th Anniversary Mtg @ Antioch @ 7:00 PM

Confirmation Class continues to meet each Sunday at 2:00 PM at Antioch UMC. Anyone who is interested is invited to attend. This week we are continuing our Faith Journey and learning about suffering and love and how God works in all of these areas. Next Sunday the Confirmation Class will be taking part in the Stop Hunger Now Mission.

The Stop Hunger Now Mission will take place on Sunday, March 11th. The time has changed to 4:00 PM and anyone who wishes to take part should meet us at Antioch at 3:30 PM. We will drive from there to Kenbridge as a group.

Sunday School is available at both churches each Sunday morning. There is a class available for all age groups, so come and join in these groups to learn more about our Lord.

The Williams Youth Group will celebrate their "One Year Anniversary" with a party on Saturday, March 10th at 3:00 PM. All youth (Children of all ages) are invited to attend. Its always fun and exciting!

Williams will hold their regular Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, March 10th at 8:00 AM. All men are encouraged to attend and bring a friend for fellowship and good food.

Please join us in welcoming Dava Olivia Turner into our family at Williams UMC. Dava was baptized on February 18th. She is the daughter of Paul and Jing Turner. Her Godparents are: Sammy & Barbara Reese, Frank & Ruthie Turner, David & Edith Turner and Frank & Lillian Collins.

Next week we will take a special offering titled "One Great Hour of Sharing." This offering is to go to UMCOR to help with its mission and relief work throughout the world. It is now needed more than ever with the recent tornado’s, blizzards and ice storms in our country along with the ongoing relief effort in the Gulf States. Please keep this in mind as you prepare for services this coming week.

Antioch News – as many of you know, the interior of our church is being painted. Services were held this morning with a few missing pews and some tight seating arrangements – but as always, we shared the love of God with our Church family and it was somehow made sweeter by our gathering in these somewhat chaotic circumstances. The Church already looks much better and it should be beautiful when the painters are done.

At Antioch this morning, Lori & John McDaniel announced that they will be new parents in August. May God’s blessing go with them during this joyous time.

Historical Marker

On Wednesday, March 7th, Rev. Ed DiStefano and Brenda Barnes will go before the Virginia Historical Landmark Committee to present the reasons why we would like to have a historical marker placed at Antioch. This is the first step of our goal to achieve National Historic Registry for our Church. Please keep praying for us as we make this journey.

In the Library at Antioch: Book Review

THE ALCHEMIST by Paulo Coelho

Every few decades a book is published that changes the lives of its readers forever. This is such a book – a magical fable about learning to listen to your heart, read the omens strewn along life’s path and, above, all follow your dreams.

This is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who dreams of travelling the world in search of a worldly treasure as fabulous as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers, and from there into the Egyptian desert, where a fateful encounter with the alchemist awaits him.

With Paulo Coelho’s visionary blend of spirituality, magical realism and folklore, ‘The Alchemist’ is a story with the power to inspire nations and change people’s lives.
