Small Groups

In its simplest form, a small group is defined as a "Small Group Bible Study."  A small group is a subset of the church body that meets on any day.  Small groups can meet in non-church locations such as homes, restaurants, coffee shops, businesses or any location that is convenient for the attendees.  They meet morning, noon or night, any day of the week.  This follows the pattern of the early church in Acts 5:42  "Day after day, in the temple courts (weekend celebration) and from house to house (small group fellowships), they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ. [NIV]. On the Lunenburg Charge, we have two groups that study the Bible.  We ask them to look at the word of God in depth so they may  accomplish all five of the purposes that Jesus gave us in the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:37-38): Love God (Worship) and love your neighbor (Ministry) and in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) Go and Make Disciples (Evangelism), Baptize them (Fellowship) and Teach them (Discipleship).  We believe that as we balance the purposes we grow a healthy church, healthy small groups, and healthy followers of Christ.  As we strive to become disciples of Jesus Christ we need to know more about him.  Reading the Bible by yourself is fine, but if you are in a study group you can develop a better understanding of what the Word is about and how it affects you each and every day.  Opening your mind to what God has written and trying to understand (interpreting) what He wants us to know will lead us to make more disciples in Christ as well as strengthen our churches.

Small groups are for everybody.  The Word, the Church, is understood better in a small group setting.  If you are not in a small group then come try one.  Let the Word surround you as you learn from others what God has written.  The availability of small group encounters will increase as the year goes on.  We are currently looking at several different curriculums on the subject of faith based growth.  Watch for new initiatives in learning in small groups.

Have a blessed week

Antioch Chairpersons Met

On Tuesday Jan 27 the Chairpersons of Antioch church committees met to plan the activities of the coming year.  Each chair provided a plan and ideas they plan to achieve and how they are going achieve their plans. The discussion included becoming a Faith Based Community, construction and reconstruction of our facilities, Outreach programs, Young Adult programs.  Also, a discussion of the church’s participation in the “Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation” program was enjoined.  More details on all these programs will be available at our next Council meeting.

Young Adults Meet

On Sunday, Jan 25 the young adults of Antioch met with church leaders to discus their concerns and needs. It was an informative meeting as they voiced their wishes to have programs keyed to their age levels.  They suggested a list of activities they would like to see including Bible Study, Jesus thematic events, Sunday night movies, a Facebook page, quarterly Young Adult Dinners, mission activities both local and long distance, special worship services, Sunday school discussion class, and tips for fun.  They are excited about the coming year and making some of items actual events.

Antioch Council to Meet

There will be a meeting of the Administrative Council on Tuesday, Feb 3, at 7:00PM.  The meeting will be about the goals that are being set for the church for the coming year.  This will be the first of our MONTHLY council meetings.  If you want to learn more about your church, or if you have suggestions you would like to voice, please join us.

Sunday School is available each Sunday morning.  The importance of Sunday School is that, though you may think hearing the word will suffice for you, you really need to be in attendance at Sunday School to gather all the information that you can in an open discussion classroom.  Jesus’ word cannot be totally understood just by listening to a sermon.  You have to interact with it and with other Christians to learn what He was saying to us.  This is a life long study and you should take part.  There is a class for every age so please plan on joining us to learn more about our Lord, Jesus Christ.   Sunday School at Williams begins at 10:45 AM and at Antioch at 10:00 AM.

Evening Bible Study    Evening Bible study will continue on February 2 at 7:00PM at Antioch.  We will be reviewing the Proverbs.  If you are looking for a study of God’s word join us not only for the study, but good fellowship.

Morning Bible Study. Morning Bible study will continue on February 10t at 10:00AM at Audrey Smith’s house.  We will be reviewing Psalms. If you are looking for a study of God’s word join us not only for the study, but good fellowship.
