Transformation Journal

August 16th, 2009

Each day the Transformation Journal will offer you a scripture passage and a question or two for reflection relating to the topic of each week’s sermon.  The prayer list is also on the back, so please take time to pray for those we have lifted up on Sunday.

Sunday, August 16th

Re-read Solomon’s prayer (1 Kings 3:5-9).  Does this prayer seem   appropriate for a new king?  How so?  What would a prayer for     someone at your place in life look like?  Write down that prayer and pray it!

Monday, August 17th

Read Judges 6:11-18.   How does Gideon respond to the declaration that he is to lead Israel?  Many leaders (Moses, Saul, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah) make similar declarations about their inability to perform what God is asking.  What can we learn about the people God seeks?

Tuesday, August 18th

Read James 3:13-17.  What does James say about the relationship    between wisdom and pride?  Look at the descriptions of wisdom in verse 17.  Which of these stands out to you?  Why do you think that is an important part of Godly wisdom?

Wednesday, August 19h

Read James 1:5-8.  1:5 invites us to ask God for wisdom, so take a few moments to pray for God’s wisdom.  The verse also says God gives without finding fault.  How does it feel to know that when you are    asking God to help that God will not find fault?

Thursday, August 20th

Read Proverbs 4:1-8.  In verse 7, the writer encourages us to give up whatever we need to in order  to get wisdom.  What are you doing to get wisdom?  What are you willing to give up?

Friday, August 21st

Read Luke 12:22-31.  How well does your life fit with the idea that we do not need to worry about food or clothes?  Do you believe God will provide if you seek first the kingdom of God? How can you live it?

Saturday, August 22nd

Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.  How do you react to Paul’s view of  weakness?  Are you able to embrace with humility your own weakness so God can work through you?  How can God use your weakness?

Sunday, August 23rd

As you get ready for worship today, take time to prepare your heart to see God.  Offer this prayer: “Living God, as we gather to worship you today, help me to encounter you, to truly worship you, to hear from you and to have my life changed by you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
